Photos and Videos

The type of photos and videos with vary with the age, level and use of the horse, but they are crucial and subject to our approval before we can  list your horse for sale as we network with a nationwide (International at times) community.  They, and us, need an accurate portrayal of the horse. This also gives you the best opportunity to find the best home for the horse, and to receive the best compensation for your efforts.

  • Professional photos and videos are absolutely encouraged. We can recommend a photographer in your area if we know one, but it's likely you will need to look for one.  We recommend a post in a local horse community requesting a photographer that does a "sale or conformation package".  Prices vary, but you can often find one for less that $200 for 5-10 digital, web-quality photos, and that is all that is needed.
  • Clear, and not backlit (clean your lens, and don't use old technology).
  • A CLEAN, well groomed horse in a nice setting!
  • Photos of both sides, front and back, top to bottom standing square.
  • Clear, unobstructed (no fence posts) video of walk, trot, canter, either free lunging or under saddle both directions, including transitions.  We highly recommend having a trainer ride the horse for a sale video.  Proper riding attire should be worn, and the horse should be ridden in a flat, groomed area.
  • Clear, unobstructed video of free-running, or playing. Playing with other horses is OK, if the camera is firmly centered on the sale horse, but it's better if they are alone. We do not recommend the horse be on a lunge line as it puts them at a less than ideal angle in the head and shoulders.  Additionally, small circles cause leaning, which make the horse's conformation and movement look odd on video. It also makes them appear unbalanced, which is generally not what buyers are looking for.
  • Grooming and handling videos, including tying, bathing, leading, desensitizing.
  • Video of the horse loading into and exiting a trailer
  • Any show footage if appropriate
  • Video showing temperament and personality.
  • Clear photos of pedigree, dam and sire, (if known and possible).

Please upload to dropbox, or send videos in WhatsApp for the best quality.  Generally attempt to keep clips under two minutes, but we will edit the raw footage.  Some suggestions are:

  • Utilize a tripod.  They can be purchased inexpensively off of amazon and often come with a remote.  This can be used for stationary filming of grooming and other activities if you don't have help.
  • GET HELP.  It's worth it to ask for another set of hands to help film your horse.  Everything starts with your photos and videos.  If they are not high quality, the same is assumed of the horse itself.
  • More is better.  Updates are appreciated.  They don't all have to be perfect once we have the required basics, but babies grow, changes happen, training evolves and seasons change.  Updating both our website and our various advertising platforms with fresh content helps immensely to continue to work to find the right match.
  • Respond QUICKLY when we ask for something, and expect strange requests!  Everyone in the horse world has had something go wrong at some point, and they need to develop trust and peace of mind along the way.  You may think a request to see a picture of your horse's tail, or something equally "silly" is absurd, but we assure you that if someone wants something more than what you have already done, they are probably very interested and it probably means a lot to them.  They are deciding whether to buy plane tickets to come view or if they can make a lifelong commitment to your horse.

A great example of a sale video can be seen here.  We created this 5 minute video out of 30 minutes of fantastic footage sent to us!  Hopefully it will provide you with some inspiration!
